The original David's Bridal going in the 1950s with a single location in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In the early seventies Phil Youtie purchased the shop and chose to keep the established name. Like the majority of bridal stores at the time, the initial David's Bridal stocked only sample gowns in a standard size. Youtie had changed the shop model within the late 1980 with a warehouse style store off I95 where they sold designer gowns, discontinued dress and manufacturer over runs at below retail prices. The "David's Bridal Warehouse" was without dressing rooms and had a concrete floor. This was based after many wholesale warehouses at the time and served them well until other local bridal store complained to the designers for allowing this. Within a few years and lots of local stores going out of business, the designers that supplied gowns to the David's bridal stopped. David's Bridal has since changed the model to more traditional stores having a choice of their very own designed wedding gowns, available, in many common plus some plus sizes. Most stores are now able to provide onsite alterations, financing options, and gown preservation services. One significant problem with this particular store is the all sales are final policy. Even when a person doesn't wear a dress, and does not get it altered by any means, their policy is to not refund money under any conditions; having a receipt doesn't make a difference. Another growing complaint from customers of David's Bridal is that stores seem to be selling private information to 3rd parties who offer wedding related services. Although some of those customers have were not impressed with being contacted by legitimate businesses, other have complained about being contacted by scammers.
